How To Use Torrent a Complete Beginner’s Guide
I decided to write this guide to show you how to use torrent (File Sharing) and get started so i assume you don’t know anything about torrent and file sharing
What is torrent? and how to use it to download any file you want? simply BitTorrent is file sharing protocol that allow you download any files you want (movies, music, games, etc…) , to know more about BitTorrent and how does it work please read wikipedia article on BitTorrent protocol.
Now you should have fairly good background on how BitTorren work, to get started you will need BitTorrent Client , Basically its program that allow you to download and manage your downloaded files.
As you may noticed there are many BitTorrent clients, but the most popular two client are uTorrent, and azureus , these two clients are the most popular these days and i highly recommend you to use uTorrent why? for two reasons
- Very light and fast program
Probably that is why its so popular uTorrent is very fast and light on your computer and it does not require too much CPU and Ram Power, and that is good especially if you have old computer, and because the natural of the torrent you probably going to leave it working all the time and you definally don’t want something to increase your system resource usage. - Easy to use
uTorrent has one of the easiest user interfaces I’ve ever seen may be I’m getting used too but its really easy compare to Azureus

uTorrent User interface
How To Use and Find Torrents
Now let’s get to work after you install uTorrent you going to need to add files you want to download, go to torrent site (Tracker) first you need to search for the files you want to download.
Search for the file you want and download the torrent file, if you have uTorrent installed it will automatically load it and start downloading
Some of Torrent sites
you are going to use torrent sites (Trackers) Evey time you want to download files, there are two kind of these site.
- Public Trackers
Public Tracker are the most popular ones most of them does NOT require registration in order to download torrents and few require free registration. - Private Trackers
These site do require registration unlike the public tracker BUT they are not open for registration all the time you must get invitation from someone in order to register , let me say that some private tracker are really too hard to get invite for they usually have less user compare to public tracker
So what is the big difference between pubic and private trackers?
Speed
Although private trackers has less users they usually has higher speed than public trackers you will download files with your max speed most of the time, public trackers is harder to get the full speed unless you downloading very popular file with lot of seeder.
Fast & Exclusive Release
Probably this is the most significant difference between public and private trackers, they always get the new files release faster than the public trackers, plus you will also find exclusive files release on the private tracker that you won’t find any place else.
Terminology of BitTorrent
When using BitTorrent you will find yourself more often come across these definition and it’s important that you know what is means.
tracker
A tracker is a server that keeps track of which seeds and peers are in the swarm. Clients report information to the tracker periodically and in exchange receive information about other clients to which they can connect. The tracker is not directly involved in the data transfer and does not have a copy of the file.
seeder
A seeder is a peer that has a complete copy of the torrent and still offers it for upload. The more seeders there are, the better the chances are for completion of the file. Also it can reefer to Someone who makes the torrent, puts it on a tracker/website.
peer
A peer is one instance of a BitTorrent client running on a computer on the Internet to which other clients connect and transfer data. Usually a peer does not have the complete file, but only parts of it. However, in the colloquial definition, “peer” can be used to refer to any participant in the swarm (in this case, it’s synonymous with “client”).
leecher
Someone who is downloading a file but hasn’t finished it yet.

I use uTorrent and get all my links from Torrentz.com or else just do a Google search if it’s for something quite obscure. Never had any problems so far, other than living in foreign countries where the Internet is painfully slow. Good stuff anyway.
